Teachers know so much about the subjects they teach. Scheduling process is very effecient.
Herricks High School definetely has a very challenging curriculum that keeps students thinking, and working hard each day. Herricks is known for the great workload they give which really prepares students for college. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, put in their best effort, and be well-rounded. All types of challenging AP classes and honors classes are offered. Some AP classes are said to be more difficult than taking that same class in college. We also a wide variety of electives in every area to choose from. It gives students an opportunity to explore anything and everything they are interested in. A few electives that have prepared me well for the future are Sports Medicine, Physiology of Exercise, and Introduction to Medical Aspects. We also have over a 100 clubs students enjoy. Herricks also has an amazing panel of teachers who are so dedicated and inspirational to their students. My experience at Herricks High Schools has been memorable and rewarding.
Overall Experience 2016-09-01
From my experience, I barely have any instances where I have been discriminated against.
Overall Experience 2015-02-01
The competitive nature of the students helps everyone to perform at the highest level possible. I think that this unique balance in addition to the support of our teachers, who are like learning partners for us, creates an incredible environment which cannot be created anywhere else. There are also a variety of cultures at our school which creates an environment of tolerance and acceptance of cultures.
Overall Experience 2015-12-01
Herricks is a great school because there are a plethora of activities.
Overall Experience 2013-10-01
Being involeved with many extra curricluar clubs made me enjoy my overall high school experience having a balence between work and fun.
Overall Experience 2013-09-01
This school is everything I wanted and more. The perfect environment for a creative person to grow and learn who he is while being supported by a wonderful family of teachers and friends.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-09-01
Herricks is one of the most diverse environments I have ever been in. With more than 50% of the students coming from Asian or Indian backgrounds, there is an enormous amount of cultural diversity.
The teachers are always looking for student's opinions. Voices are always heard. Teachers go above and beyond to make sure every student understands.
I feel that overall they are some of the best teachers
engaging, creative and caring. teachers actually care about you and your education
Teachers truly care for their students and their well-beings.
I have never came in contact with a teacher who wasn't 100% devoted to their students education. They are willing to help and stay after school if a student is having trouble with a concept.
There are some teachers that are really great in using their surroundings, using real life examples, and creating engaging lessons plans. They respect, understand, and genuinely care about their students. There are a few teachers who do not seem to care and have boring lesson plans and their use over and over again.
Teachers and Staff are dedicated and love to talk!!! They share their thoughts and knowledge and engage their students
Never a problem with teachers.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-04-01
Diversity is apparent, and the groups of friends one hangs out with is usually dependent on race.
Student Culture & Diversity 2014-06-01
The school is known for its diversity. Students are very involved in the school and usually do not bully others for their sexual orientation and/or ethnic/racial diversity. Students, more often than not, tend to get along, but the friend groups are often broken up by race.
Every teacher has extra help, but its the teachers who talk to you after class to offer help who are the best
They all try their best to teach and really help all students to understand the subjects they teach. They go out of their way to hold help classes after school and really genuinely care for the students.
I've had some great teachers and not so great ones. Many want to help students succeed by having extra help sessions and meetings in their off periods. Sometimes it felt like I've never had the same teacher twice. Each one puts something different on the table.
Part of me wants to say its okay. But it has a great education system

Teachers really teach you and prepare you well for college. It's hard, but nothing that you can't take if you aren't lazy
Overall Experience 2015-07-01
Herricks High School is a great school where the main goal is to make everyone feel welcomed. I moved to the Herricks School District in 5th grade and I remember being terrified. As all first days I was quiet and kept to myself but something very weird happened, kids came up to me and introduced myself and talked to me. Most of the kids I became friends are still my friends 6 years later, and that is what makes this school so special. Herricks is more than just a community or a school, it is a family. I remember being pissed at my parents for making me move but I am glad they did, because otherwise I would have missed out on a great experience.
Overall Experience 2014-06-01
There are somethings I wish I could change about the school, but overall, I've had a good time over the past three years. I've made great friends and have had some great teachers. There are many school activities that I'll remember and that have made an impact on my life.
Overall Experience 2014-03-01
I love the fact that my school challenges me and the curriculum prepares me for College

The PTA could actually help fund the high school more than the elementary schools
Academic is very important in Herricks with encouragements from teachers and counselors to take AP classes whenever possible. Student testing ratings are usually among the top.
Educational Outcomes 2013-12-01
Pretty well prepared. I went into the arts though, so not entirely prepared.
Overall Experience 2016-01-01
The school has many events to try to reach out to everyone in each of the classes. Of course everyone has their own groups
The school is known for its academics and has great teachers and study options. The school has great science and math programs and is very helpful to students who choose to look for help. The workload is large and there is a lot of pressure to do well at the school.
Being in one of the top rated High Schools has it's ups and downs but for the most part the academics and curriculum and everything else is is made easier by a fantastic group of dedicated teachers and staff that really go the extra mile
No matter how much homework we students are able to churn out, it seems as if it never ends. I wonder if the teachers know how much we have going on in our lives outside of school...
Scheduling isn't too hard- choosing classes can be difficult. Many core class requirements that are either interesting or will put you to sleep. Grades are more important than understanding the actual material. The workload can either put people in tears or people will look at it and do nothing.
i have such a hard time getting good grades becase of the intense learning and hard teachers
There are a lot of AP options but it's hard to choose a class if you don't want to take an AP because there are not many options
It's either a hit or miss. I've taken advanced, honors, and AP classes whenever I could, and found that you can get an amazing teacher who makes you love the subject or an average one who doesn't really motivate you.
Overall Experience 2015-12-01
Some people are good. Some aren't. I've made very positive relationships with teachers, though, and those who cared cared a LOT.
Overall Experience 2016-05-01
The parents really respect the opinions of the students and try to help make the school environment as friendly and including as possible.
Overall Experience 2016-04-01
I have made very strong bonds with a few of the teachers at Herricks, and many have also helped me in applications to several summer programs. For that, I am very grateful. Not only some teachers, but many of my close friends also helped in making my time at Herricks (thus far) enjoyable. In certain classes, we would often talk or debate about things we see as growing issues: for example, the recent political debates or international views on climate change. Unfortunately, there have also been times where my group of friends and I have been attacked (verbally) by other groups. It was caused primarily a racial difference, although the dispute itself was not over the difference in race. Some people disagreed with some different opinions that we had, and they were not able to respect that we did not necessarily think the same way they did. I would have been able to simply let it pass over my head and say "Never Mind" to the whole issue, but that would only be if the attackers apologized. Which they still have yet to do.
Overall Experience 2016-03-01
I've graduated about two years ago. Everyone knows each other and knows everybody's business, since all of us went to elementary and middle school together. My grade itself is very cliquey and the student body does not intermingle much. Herricks does have a very good music program and it shows when the music groups perform and get invited to all county or state. There's nothing special about sports and student government practically takes over the school. I wish I couldn't have gone to Herricks, but it is a public school and I cannot choose another one.
Overall Experience 2014-01-01
I get the feeling that many of the students are afraid to speak about certain topics--but these topics are important to the future of our nation. Pretty much everybody dresses the same and seem to hold the same ideologies...except for me and some others like me.
Overall Experience 2013-12-01
Great Faculty. Some amazing teachers. Wish they had more arts programs. More funding would go along way
Overall Experience 2013-11-01
I'm really shy and it's hard to make friends.
Overall Experience 2013-03-01
The school is great overall. We do not have too much money so there are a lot of classes and clubs being cut, but the school is still extremely competitive and it still remains one of the best in all of Nassau County. Herricks is also known for its amazing Music programs, and being a member of Chamber Choir, I can say that it lives up to it's expectations.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-12-01
We are very diverse, but the kids with the same race usually stick together. Though there can be self-segergation at the school events, many people hang out with people that are different from them.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-10-01
we are a diverse school as many say, but we have three main cultures, indian, asian, and white. Where the races stick together as friends and stay within there clique
It really just depends on what teachers you have
we have a very diverse staff willing to help anyone who comes to them
Some teachers really care about the students and stay extra hours for help but others get annoyed when kids ask too many questions.
